Thank you for finding your way here - all are welcome at Modern Therapy with Ali Carnegie.
What do I do? I offer therapy for modern life.
This is a therapy clinic addressing modern life issues including: anxiety, depression, stress management, substance/alcohol recovery and support, self-esteem, abuse, panic attacks, relationship issues, attachment issues, burnout, bipolar management, and general psychological selfcare. I work with existential crisis, climate distress, disconnection to Self, loneliness, finding purpose in the modern world, and harness the principles of individual and collective healing. I draw on ancient healing wisdom and spiritual traditions because there is no point in reinventing the wheel, despite capitalism and consumerism telling us we must.
I offer short term sessions (up to 12 sessions), longer-term sessions (13+ sessions and open-ended), and extended one-off ad hoc sessions (maintenance sessions, single session therapy).
Why work with me?
I really don’t like labels, but understand that sometimes they are helpful and/or necessary. You can see my credentials and professional information below.
I have lots of therapy experience, and just like you, lots of life experience, and I am still learning and growing on these journeys.
I am an experienced integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor and online counsellor based in rural Cambridgeshire, UK. I offer therapy sessions online (video, email, voice call, Instant Messaging) and via phone to clients globally. I also provide supervision to other therapists individually and in groups.
I have a core training in psychodynamic and person-centred counselling, and as an integrative therapist, also work with other models, approaches and methods in order to tailor therapy to each individual. These include: Transpersonal, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis (TA), CBT techniques, stress management, selfcare tools, alcohol/substance misuse management and recovery, resilience-building techniques, motivational interviewing, nature therapy, trauma work.
I have been in private practice since 2013. I have worked as an integrative therapist and groupwork facilitator for a private healthcare group in Bristol and London, a specialist counsellor for the NHS, a counsellor and online workshop facilitator for Cardiff University Student Counselling Service, and as a substance misuse recovery specialist in women's prisons and community services. I currently co-run an NHS specialist renal counselling service in Cambridge alongside my private practice.
I also work as a therapist in clinical trials for psychedelic therapy in the UK working with psilocybin, methylone and MDMA, and offer psychedelic integration sessions in this role and through my private practice.
I engage in post-qualification training regularly and as an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP Accred) I adhere to their ethical and professional framework. I am fully insured.
I am currently completing supervision training with Re-Vision in London (2026).
Recent Groupwork:
I co-facilitated the monthly Cambridge Psychedelic Integration Circle (2023-24) - a supportive space for people who have used psychedelics or have an interest in them, to share experiences, explore, ground and find meaning. We are a friendly welcoming group and would love to see you if you are interested. Please note: this is a peer-led support group and not a therapy group. www.cambridge-psychedelics.com
